There are over 15 classrooms accommodating the students’ academic needs, with a maximum of 15 students per class, though we aim for 13. Many of the classrooms have audio-visual equipment (TV, Video, DVD, OHP). The classrooms are located in the various parts of the campus.
Students are tested at the beginning of the course and placed in classes according to their level and age.
Students are given a test at the end of their course and receive a certificate of attendance along with a comprehensive report.
Levels and tests are in line with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
All course materials are provided, including an LAL Workbook. The syllabus is created by the LAL England Academic Department and concentrates on communicative and topic-based lessons.
We seek to ensure that classes are made up of as many different nationalities as possible and that the age range is similar, though students’ level is the most important criteria.
There are 20 lessons of 45 minutes every week. Lessons are in the morning except the first Thursday when there is also a lesson in the afternoon. There are also lessons at the weekend.
Students can also opt for the Trinity GESE examinations (by prior arrangement, subject to minimum numbers).
The Intensive English course is an additional 6 hours with the lessons taking place in the afternoon and evening. These classes will be a maximum of 8 students. Students taking part in this course will still be able to attend all excursions.
Intensive English and Trinity GESE preparation take place at the same time, so students who choose both may miss up to 4.5 hours of the Intensive English course in a two-week period.
All teachers are qualified, native speakers or native-speaker standard and hold a current certificate in teaching EFL, either Cambridge CELTA or Trinity TESOL (or equivalent according to the British Council). They are also checked for criminal records with the CRB or an equivalent authority.
